Winter in the Willows

Despite what I may have said on the Death Unto Darkness forum (Whoops) - Winter in the Willows will (most likely) run 19th - 21st March, 2010.

We will be confirming the venue this week, after Wednesday's site visit, eflyers and community posts will go out at the end of the week.

If you'd still like to contribute flavourtext for the cultural introductions (the publically availiable documents for each of the Peoples of the Land) then I'd like to have submissions towards the end of the week, if possible...

alasdair: I am on the 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square between 10pm and 11pm tonight.(Monday) My plan is to take pictures of the crowd in the square. Which means I need a crowd, and in a perfect world I need the crowd to be interesting looking. So, please, if you're at a loose end, stop by, and if you feel like dressing up, I'd be delighted.

If any of you feel like re-posting this call for interesting looking volunteers in your own journals, I'd be very grateful indeed.

So there you go. Any London types who would like to make it down to help him out? I'm going to have to miss it, being in Brighton, but there's no reason YOU can't make it interesting.

Has anybody ELSE had problems with the Telephone "Provider "3"?
Bottom line - they're scam artists and bullies. The previous traumatic telephone calls that penguin_worship underwent with them have resurfaced and they've started throwing their weight around again.

Word of warning: If they, or any of their agents, offer to buy you out of your current cntract? Don't bother, folks. That way terror lies.

Just Walk - for Maternity Worldwide

Fundraising Walk – 9th May 2009, West Sussex

On Saturday the 9th of May, Maternity Worldwide and some of their supporters will be taking on the Just Walk 10km Challenge through West Sussex to raise money for our projects. Due to the short time before the actual Walk day, each member is trying to raise a minimum donation of £50, to cover the registration fees and raise some money as well.

Alice left all of Wonderland in a storm. When it settled, everything had changed. The cards have risen up, the Knaves turning their blades on their former masters. Now the Kings are dead, the Queen of Hearts gone, and her sisters under lock and key. The Ranks rule Wonderland now, their Numerocracy recognising all denominations as equal - but some more equal than others.

But Wonderland is changing. Old allies reveal new faces, and strange threats lie in familiar ground. There are rumours that the Queen is returning, that heads will roll. But paper is running out. The Numerocracy has purged and pulped the royalists of Wonderland long ago. If it's going to survive, it's going to have to search somewhere else for their traitors. Within.

Legacy of Alice is the live roleplaying game of cut-throat bureaucracy, surrealist horror and post-revolutionary paranoia. Gone is the senseless violence of the Monarchy; instead, characters live or die by their ability to tramp down their underlings, undermine their betters and assign blame to their peers. The cards of the Numerocracy wield a weapon crueler than any blade - the pen.

Thirty to fourty players will be split between the four interdependent Suits, backed up by the Knaves and accompanied by revolutionary confidantes The White Rabbit and The Cheshire Cat. Over eight hours they will weather the worst that Wonderland has to throw at them in a bleak atmosphere of frantic finicketing, broken only by surreal sabbaticals to The Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Death is the most powerful form of demotion, but the bureaucracy must not be left vacant - pulped characters are copied and returned at the bottom of the hierarchy. The daily meatgrind must continue.

Legacy of Alice is being designed by a small team interested in running an alternative live roleplaying event in the winter months of this year. Much of the game is in place, and we are currently looking for potential venues before we move forward. The ideal venue:

> Is available for hire for a weekend during the last four months of this year.
> Is indoors, with access to power, water and heating.
> Consists of at least 5 small rooms, or a very large hall. 6 rooms would be ideal.
> Is geographically accessible to a fair portion of players in England.

Price is crucial, as the equipment required places tight restrictions on our budget and we don't want to sting anyone for too much. We're probably looking at a village hall, university area or similar space, rather than a commercial venue. If you know a suitable place, please get in contact with us as soon as possible.

Update: It appears that Legacy of Alice may be eligible for Arts Council funding. As such, professional venues are worth investigating too.

As some of you will be aware Maternity Worldwide are running a Mother's Day fundraising campaign at the moment and we are in desparate need of some help with flyering on the following days/times:

Sunday 15th March - Churchill Square - Brighton
various shifts from 10am - 4pm

Monday 16th March - Brighton Station
08.15 - 10.30

Monday 16th March - Brighton Station
16.15 - 19.30

Can you help us? Or do you know someone who can? At the moment only a handful of staff and volunteers are doing a huge amount of shifts and we would like to be able to spread the work around, so if you could help us, even with only one shift, you would be contributing hugely to the campagin.

06:06 - Alarm. I set my alarm for repeated or palindromic times, as it pleases me, and setting it later would start my day oddly. Snooze button, or (if I am very tired) sleepily reset my alarm to much, much later.
06:11, 06:16 and 06:21 - Snooze button.
06:26 - Up, as the "6" is the repeated number after a 20 minute lay-in. Pet Bearcat.
06:27, or therabouts - Shower, during which my alarm goes off to let me know how long I've been in. Snooze button two or three times.
06:56 - Finish shower, dry and throw on clothes.
07:01 - Kiss penguin_worship, pet Bearcat, Leave the house. Snooze alarm tells me it's time to go.
07:16 - Train. Press "Off" on my snooze alarms.
